What is a WILL?
A will is a legal document that sets forth your wishes regarding the distribution of your property and the care of any minor children. If you die without a will, those wishes may not be carried out. A will may reflect a person’s wishes, desires, choices, or intentions. Further, your heirs may end up spending additional time, money, and emotional energy to settle your affairs after you’re gone. A will must be written, signed, and witnessed to be valid. It can also nominate guardians for dependents or pets.
Although wills do NOT avoid probate they are very economical and are effective at making sure a person's assets are distributed according to their wishes.
